Brett Menter, an Altus professionally certified Mountain Guide.

Hi Brett, where are you from?

Denver, Colorado

What attracted you to the mountains?

The vast expansive space for creativity, freedom, and exploration. The mountains were a perfect environment for me to learn more about myself and heal from childhood trauma as well as a sanctuary to be laud, rambunctious, and child-like.

What made you want to become a guide?

Growing up watching big mountain snowboard films sparked a ferocious desire to ride similar terrain and be fully immersed in the mountain culture. As a natural leader, showing other people profound experiences came naturally and quickly. I saw that making a living doing extraordinary work in beautiful places was possible and put all of my marbles in that basket.

What is your favourite outdoor activity?

Exploratory multi-day splitboard missions to secluded new zones with wholesome people. Including (but not limited to): bottomless powder, vast expansive views, silence, music, exposed ridge-walking, 1500m+ descents, pillows, coffee, chocolate, dancing, stillness, sunrises, sunsets, card games, and good sleep.

What can we find in your pack for lunch?

Left-over sushi, hot miso soup, dark chocolate.

What is your favourite place in the whole wide world?

Chugach Mountains, Alaska

And most importantly, what can we trust you to whip up when cooking in the backcountry?

Pizza from scratch.
