5.9 Climber climbs: The Grand Wall, Sickle to the University Wall and the Shlanay in Squamish

It’s been a pleasure the guide Eric over the last few days out around Squamish. Been an action packed few days of rock climbing. Eric being a solid 5.9 rock climber with a total of 7 days rock climbing EVER in his life…. He is doing very well. Eric truly is a natural climber. I guess I have some wild ideas that help us along to get out for some great days of climbing. Eric has been learning lots about climbing and the world of Aiding.  Eric’s first day of Jugging or Jumaring was on the Grand Wall. I would climb the pitch rappel back down and set Eric up to climb on the jugs so he could climb the rope. Then I would get to climb the pitch again self belaying while coaching him on the way up. Worked really well and gave me a great workout…

Thanks to Eric for showing us what is possible for a novice climber and that humans are nature climbers by design.

The Grand Wall, Sickle to the University Wall and the Shlanay in Squamish. What a way to ring in the start of the climbing season!
