Showcase Spire, Whistler – Blackcomb, BC

An outing on Showcase Spire off of Blackcomb Mountain is one of the best mini adventures imaginable!  With a civilized approach and an ambiance that makes you wonder where this beauty has been hiding all your life, Showcase Spire is not to be missed!  I had the pleasure of climbing this gem on the weekend with Helen Beynon and despite the hoards of tourists elsewhere in Whistler, we had the place all to ourselves. Unlike most climbs, this one starts with a rappel which involves fixing a rope to the rim so it can be tagged up and used to Tyrolean traverse once atop of the spire. From an eerie notch, two pitches of fun climbing leads to the top of the tower.  We rigged the ropes and zipped back to our backpacks at the edge of the cliff that frames this beautiful piece of mountain achitecture.
